The first day is full of jitters and anxiety, but what better way to relieve some of that then by doing a STEM! The first day is usually spent with the teacher talking and discussing procedures, but students need to be engaged from the very beginning. I thought of the idea of introducing STEM on the very first day to activate those minds and learn from my friends on the first day!

Students are encouraged to build a water transport device to transport at least 12 cup of water from a starting point to an ending point. We created word triangles to increase our student’s vocabulary. This was during the winter time, so the students picked an over used word to go on the top and in the middle they picked a higher level synonym. Then, we use the thesaurus to find a higher level synonym for the bottom part of the tree. You can find the templates by following the link below. I used aluminum foil for the icicles.
