This is my first year to blog! I started my blog this year after my TPT store was getting off the ground and I went through and posted last year’s pictures as well! I am excited to share my ideas with other teachers and collaborate with other teachers. Teaching is a true profession where it is imperative we work together and share ideas. There is such a vast amount of knowledge available when we look to others for inspiration and help.
At the beginning of the year, we discuss procedures and expectations. A fun unit I begin my year with is Miss Nelson! We read all three books. We begin reading Miss Nelson is Missing and they complete a character map of a character within the story. They discuss how the character feels, how they feel about the character, and what others think about the character. This always gives me a good indication of their skill level for character and how much detail they can provide about the character.
The first day is full of jitters and anxiety, but what better way to relieve some of that then by doing a STEM! The first day is usually spent with the teacher talking and discussing procedures, but students need to be engaged from the very beginning. I thought of the idea of introducing STEM on the very first day to activate those minds and learn from my friends on the first day!
